Interview

1.What is your definition of women empowerment?

Women empowerment to me means for women to be independent and having the freedom and access to all resources and opportunities for her to live her life as she chooses to be.

The woman has the freedom to choose the life she designs for herself and she has access to the education of her choice.

2.What motivated you to get involved in being inspirational for change?

It all started with me learning my “why”. At the time when I was down to my last RM2 and no idea where my next income is going to be, I started to change myself, my thoughts and focus on my “why” (which was to keep my family together at the time). I managed to get RM20,000 in less than 2 weeks at the time.

If I could shift my thoughts and made a decision to change my money state at the time, I believe many can also change. Now, working also with the marginalized communities like refugees and the homeless, I educate them on being able to shift the mindset of poverty to that of abundance and making a decision to pull through and get past a certain belief system. Now, I not only educate the people at the corporate levels but also the low income to shift mindsets.

3.What are some key characteristics of an empowered person?

Having a strong self belief and belief in God (a higher power). An empowered person also sees opportunities in whatever resources he/she already has. An empowered person is in constant gratitude and in a state of giving to others.

4.What can leaders or individuals interested in advocacy do to facilitate empowerment?

Give the freedom for the people to express ideas and creativity. Instill the values of love & respect in the society starting from the top. With respect, the people will respect the leader and the rules in place.

The people will use the empowerment for good of the community.

5.What advice would you give to those who want to give up due to a lack of empowered feeling, thinking and action? (e.g. What is an important first step)

Focus on you “why”. What will be at stake if you give up. Who will be affected if you give up. Your “why” is bigger than yourself and that will be the one to push you onto the next day, the next task, the nest step towards your goal. Every successful person became successful because he/she did not give up
